San Francisco 49ers Odds, Bet Types, and Team History

If only the 49ers had a fourth competent quarterback last season.

That’s basically what got in San Francisco’s way during the 2022-23 season, when they charged to a 13-4 record and NFC Championship game appearance. There, of course, Brock Purdy suffered a torn right UCL that basically torpedoed the 49ers at the worst possible time.

As you might remember, Purdy was San Francisco’s third-string quarterback to start the season. It started with Trey Lance. He got hurt. Then it was the vet, Jimmy Garoppolo. He got hurt. Then Purdy got the call, and he was more competent than anyone expected. Unfortunately, the fourth signal-caller, Josh Johnson, didn’t have the magic against a fierce Eagles defense.

Entering the 2023-24 campaign, things will be a little different. For one, the defense took some hits via free agency as Jimmie Ward, Emmanuel Moseley, Azeez Al-Shaair, Samson Ebukam and Charles Omenihu departed. Jimmy G is also out of the picture, signing with the rival Raiders. He was replaced by Sam Darnold.

Unsurprisingly, the quarterbacks are the ones to watch during training camp and preseason. It’ll be Lance vs. Purdy vs. Darnold in this year’s edition.

San Francisco opens its season on Sept. 10 on the road against the Steelers.
