Death, taxes and Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh Steelers managing to at least go .500 in a season. With a 9-8 campaign last year, Tomlin’s now up to 16 straight years of winning seasons. Of course, it wasn’t quite enough to make the playoffs, but still an impressive feat nonetheless.

Will Tomlin and the Steelers make it 17 straight in 2023? Well, maybe. FanDuel has Pittsburgh’s win total over/under set at 8.5 as of early July, with juice (-150) to the over.

The Steelers’ success likely hinges on what Kenny Pickett can do in his sophomore campaign. The Pittsburgh product had an up-and-down rookie season, going 7-5 in his 12 starts with 2,404 passing yards and a 7-9 TD/INT ratio. He also generated 237 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. PFF grading had him in the middle pack of all quarterbacks.

As far as the draft is concerned, the Steelers had one of the more lauded classes. Notably, they landed tackle Broderick Jones, corner Joey Porter Jr. and tight end Darnell Washington. As for free agency, they lost Cam Sutton but replaced him with veteran Patrick Peterson. They also took a flyer on Allen Robinson II after his dismal season with the Rams.

Pittsburgh gets its season started on Sept. 10 at home against the 49ers.
