Knicks Spread

At 26-33 against-the-spread so far, the Knicks are barely better than their regular record. The spread is a margin of points that a team has to cover to win a bet. Favored teams, given a minus sign (-), have to win by a certain number of points, and the underdog, noted with a plus sign (+), can win outright or keep the margin of victory within the spread.

Let's use an example:

• Atlanta Hawks (+3.5)
• New York Knicks (-3.5)

In this case, the Knicks are favored at home by 3.5 points. Tickets on New York to cover the spread would need a four-point Knicks victory at a minimum to cash. Bets on the Hawks would win if Atlanta were to win the game or lose by three or fewer points.

Knicks Over/Unders

If you're more comfortable betting on Tom Thibodeau's relentless defense than a Knicks victory, then an over/under bet (also called a total) is what you're looking for. Bets on the total involve betting on whether two teams will combine for over or under a certain number of points. The Knicks' overs hit at a 28-30-1 clip through the first half of the season.

Let's say the over/under for our example game against the Hawks was set at 216 points. Bets on the over would win if the teams scored 217 points or more between them, while the under would hit if the two teams scored 215 points or fewer. In the case of a tie or push -- 216 points scored exactly -- the wager is canceled and all bets are refunded.

Knicks Prop Bets
